How to use Remote Desktop Connection in Windows Vista PC to another Vista PC?

I'm trying to use Remote Desktop Connection in Windows Vista PC to another Vista PC :

(1) On my home network (from wired PC to a laptop connected to same the router)

(2) Thru Internet (from office to home)

This much I know/have tried:

(a) Control Panel %26gt; System %26gt; Remore Settings %26gt; Allow connections only from computers running Remote Desktop with Network Level Authentication ( I also tried selecting "less secure" option: Allow connections from computers running any version of Remote Desktop).

(b) Control Panel %26gt; Windows Firewall %26gt; Change Settings %26gt; Exceptions %26gt; Select Remote Assistance %26amp; Remote Desktop .

(c) Turned off McAfee firewall.

(d) Accessories %26gt; Remote Desktop Connection %26gt; Computer name / ip (ie. 192.168.1.15; have tried thru name also)

Everytime I click connect, I get, "This computer can't connect to the remote computer" on a home network, haven't tried from office to home yet.

Thanks a million in advance, any help is greatly appreciated. -Jags

How to use Remote Desktop Connection in Windows Vista PC to another Vista PC?
This is an alternate way of Remote Desktop Connection: You can use these two Zolved programs "Share my screen" and "View or control" if there is someone else at the other computer to provide you with the unique numbers, but in your case you can see the numbers yourself.

goto: http://www.zolved.com/remote_control

Share my screen

A quick, small tool that lets you share the view and control of your PC with someone remote who is helping you resolve a problem

Allow view only, full control or file browsing

Also perfect for training, collaboration or having your kid fix the darn thing!

View or control

The other half of the tool. The Helper should start this tool on the remote PC so it can find the shared PC and really see what's going on.

See exactly what your boss is doing and make corrections on the fly as your boss is mesmerized by your skills.
Reply:Try the following:

1. Ditch Remote Assistance

2. On the target machine, open the browser, go to LogmeIn.com and create an account (it's free)

3. In your account - add a computer

4. Download and install the Logmeinfree version on the machine (as it says - it's free)

5. Go to your machine - wherever it is.

6. Log onto your Logmein account

7. Take control of the remote machine

Much easier than using the MS solution, especially if you are trying to access the machine through firewalls and outside the machines' LAN

IMHO - while your at it - Ditch Vista and upgrade to XP - you'll be glad you did
