wouldnt it be another exception to the
i before e , except after c?
Another question about spelling Atheist?
wEIrd, isn't it? Actually no. This rule should never be taught, there are far too many words that do not fit it
Einstein has it "wrong" Twice!
Reply:Oh noes! A greek word (theos - god) that doesn't follow English spelling conventions!
Reply:Think about all the other words that follow this rule...T H E I S T for example. Weigh, sleigh, neighbor...etc.
Reply:In this word, the e and the i each make their own sound; they do not combine into one sound. The "i before e" rule is for words in which the two letters make a combined sound.
Reply:a Theist might think so
christians might believe so
gamblers hope so
but atheists know so
Reply:It would, since it is made by adding the prefix "a" to "theist," which has its origin in the Greek 'theos."
Reply:the rest goes: "or if sounding like A as in neighbor and weigh".
To all atheists: good spelling is not a sign of intelligence.
Reply:Having studied the huu-mon language called Greek at the prestigious Ferengi Andover Academy, it's because it is from the frigging Greek.
