What are the exceptions to this rule?
'i' before 'e' except after 'c'?
The english language is not DEFICIENT in exeptions to this rule - much more than EIGHT. So BEING EFFICIENT with my answer I will FORFEIT my LEISURE. In good CONSCIENCE I must state that many are of FOREIGN origin ALBEIT ANCIENT. EITHER the FEISTY GEISHA or the BEIGE SPECIES of ROTWEILLER SUFFEIT as SUFFICIENT examples. ATHEISTor believer in DEITIES, no NEIGHBOUR can FEIGN to SIEZE this knowledge. NEITHER HEIGHT nor WEIGHT can VEIL THEIR WIERD or HEINOUS REIGN.
HEIGH-HO I must REINFORCE the CAFFEINE in my VIENS.
Reply:I before e except after c or when sounded like a as in neighbor and weigh.
Reply:As you can see m8, there are loads of exceptions to this rule and whoever thought it up in the first place was quite clearly a Muppet

Reply:Weird is a definate exception. So's neighbour / neighbor. That explains why I can't spell them!
Reply:When sounding like "A" (aye) as in neighbor or weigh
Reply:e before i with anything else
Reply:Did I see a penis where it shouldn't be????
Reply:none unless you mispell the word. im a horrible speller though i think mainly because my fingers work faster than my brain.
wait aminute weights is one maybe there is no exception then.
Reply:The rule is 'i' before 'e' except after 'c', unless it makes the sound 'a-e' as in neighbor and weigh. However there are many other exceptions. If it makes the 'ee' sound it starts with 'e' and it it makes the 'i-e' sound it starts with 'i'. Also the word weird- but I just remember WE are weird to help remember that it is e before i. Either memorize the words you need to know, or use a dictionary or spell check to correct the words.
