Puke is easier to look at than my report card. Right now, my projected final grades (of the year) are straight C's with the exception of an F in math SL (calculus) and an A in a non-IB class (business technology). I wish I had quit IB at the beginning of the year. But is it too late since I'm almost half way through the IB Diploma Programme? I knew someone last year that received straight A's and dropped out senior year to avoid the exams and was accepted to UF. But obviously, that person's situation was different from mine. By the way, I live in Florida, if that makes a difference; I know IB students have a lot of advantages with the Bright Futures Scholarship.
I always tell myself that 10 years from now, IB is not going to worth anything in my life and that it isn't worth the trouble.
Should I drop out of IB? I'm a junior!?
Oh, no! Please, however much you're struggling with...keep with and STAY with IB. There's always people going around telling others that IB isn't worth it; that's it's a waste of time. This really isn't true. IB has helped me SO much, and I sacrificed a lot for it...but the good times always defeat the bad ones. You've already gone through almost THREE years IB...don't throw away all of your hard work down the toilet! You can do it!!
Reply:UF has the most IB studnts than any other college. they will really look at u and will probably compare u wit hur classmates
i say drop out of ib so u can take summer classes and replace ds and fs
btw, many qualified ib students are having trouble going to uf, ppl with average gpas are having trouble as well
bring up ur gpa ths summe and next year
Reply:I quit IB in high school after sophomore year, because the workload was a little much for me, I was doing some very time consuming extracurriculars as well, and I couldn't balance it all and ended up getting Ds in a couple of classes second semester. My last two years of high school I was in regular college prep classes, most of which didn't seem challenging enough after dealing with IB. I brought up my GPA though, did well on my SAT, and went to a pretty good state college. College suited me better than high school, and I made really good grades. I was part of the honors program and graduated magna *** laude. So, even if you quit IB, it won't ruin you accademically. But it's up to you, do what feels right for you.
Reply:With those grades you may not have a choice. If you get through IB you may get a scholarship and be accepted by the college you want. But, if you don't make it through the program, it's not the end of the world. Life is what you make it.
My son dropped out of IB the last semester of his senior year (without letting me know first). He could not abide taking one more Spanish class. He did well in the math and other courses, but languages must not be his thing. Had he gotten through he would have saved lots of college money and gotten a better start in his adult life. But, he's doing all right, and you will too.
Good luck.
