Which of the following compounds present exceptions to the octet rule ?

a) SeF2

b) PCl3O

c) XeF6

d) ClO3-

e) NF3

Which of the following compounds present exceptions to the octet rule ?
The XeF6 is an obvious one, beacuse the Xe is normally an inert compund with an octet.

Do the Lewis dot formula to calculate the others. Add up the valence electrons and distribute. If you have left over electrons, then it will be an exception
Reply:PCl3O Because the compound has more than 8 electrons .

PCl3 follows the octet but due to additiona of O make it to disobey the Octet rule.
