"Automatically Detect Settings" for internet connection- can't turn off!?

I have a Linksys wireless card which works fine except when i put my computer on standby %26amp; then turn it back on. I get the "External Exception" note %26amp; can't get on the internet unless i restart my computer. I read that the solution is to make Windows configure the wireless connection, but I'd rather have Linksys keep doing that.

I'm looking for a way to stop my computer from automatically turning on my wireless connection whenever my wireless card is plugged in. I thought this scenario would work b/c if i unplug the wireless card %26amp; then turn on my computer (from standby mode) i don't get the external exception note. And everything works fine when i plug the card back in. I'd like to turn on my computer (from standby) with the card already plugged in, then click on something to start the "wireless detection" stuff.

My "automatically detect settings" box is already unchecked %26amp; i've looked thru Control Panel, Internet Options, Tool bar, etc. with no success. Any suggestion?

Thanks!

The External Exception error usually means a hardware conflict.

I would allow Windows to manage your wireless connection and not the Linksys wireless adapter itself.

Out of curiosity, when this happens do you have Word open and are you doing any word processing? If yes, corruption of the normal.dot file can also cause a similar error.
Reply:Let Windows manage the wireless, It does a better job.

Linksys routers are not the best. D-Links are.
Reply:i have a linksys too. mabe u should try 2 wire?
