Guitar/piano?????

i have played guitar for 16 years now, i never tried to much on the piano but would like to. the piano key board (in my opinion) is just all the notes on a guitar layed out individually on keys. i know that both have the same notes A,B,C,D,E,F,and G with all the flats and sharps with the exception of E and B. can someone who knows how to play both give me a little info on the piano. and was it harder to learn piano or guitar? wich one did you learn first and did it help you when learning the other?

Guitar/piano?????
I highly recommend learning piano. It will help your understanding of music theory in general, and your sight reading. Other than a handful of young childhood lessons on piano, guitar was my first instrument. I think it's easier to get to a point of playing with or in front of other people on the guitar (three chords and the truth!), but I would say more difficult to become truly advanced at the guitar. Speaking from my own experience, piano will be very frustrating to learn at first, only because you can already do so much more on guitar, but stick with it and you will become a better musician and songwriter.

(PS - I also highly recommend learning to play the drums, at some point)
Reply:I started playing piano when I was little. The piano keys are laid out in a more logical system than the guitar (which is purely chromatic). The gutar strings are of course tunned to notes which make playing basic chords very simple. The same chords on a piano are just about as difficult to get good at, but you can do so much more, (if you get really good that is). The two instruments can play similar music, that is easy piano pieces are often playable by a good guitarist.

I thought myself guitar in my teens, I didn't really need a teacher because of the theory and music I had learned from piano. Guitar and piano technique are very different, but music theory is music theory. All I had to get used to was left hand string technique for the guitar (and remember which string was tuned to what key)

:) -Good luck!
Reply:it was harder to learn to play guitar since i started playing piano first, but actually, if you learn piano first, it will help you learn all other instuments.

Learning piano after guitar might not actually help much since guitar theory is different from piano theory and the notes are a bit different.

However, piano is actually a very easy instrument to learn. The hard part is getting good at it. Good luck! =)
Reply:I started with the piano when I was four, which did help when I taught myself guitar. Personally, it was harder to learn guitar, but I think that's because I was used to playing piano.

Either way, having mastered the guitar will be to a great advantage to you when you learn piano. Good luck!
